Parent educators are professionals who empower parents with knowledge and skills to support their child’s healthy development and address family mental health needs, often through evidence-based curricula and a preventative approach. They provide education on topics like child development, emotional regulation, and positive discipline, and help parents navigate stressors and access community resources. This role differs from a therapist, as its primary function is education and skill-building rather than clinical treatment of mental health disorders. Our parent educators work with family members to:
- Strengthen parenting competencies.
- Foster parents’ involvement in their child’s school experiences.
- Promote their child’s academic, social, and emotional skills.
- Reduce conduct problems.
Group sessions focus on strengthening parent-child interactions, nurturing relationships, reducing harsh discipline, and fostering parents’ ability to promote their child’s social, emotional, and language development.
